FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Police are searching for suspects after a stray bullet struck a 12-year-old boy inside his Fort Pierce home late Friday night.

Officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department say they responded to shots fired on the 500 block of North 22nd Street just after 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

Upon arrival, police say they located a 12-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

This marks the second stray bullet-related shooting on Friday in the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County. A Delray Beach man was killed inside his home by a stray bullet the same day.

The boy was reportedly airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital for medical treatment and is now in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation indicated that unknown people fired a weapon toward the family’s home, where the 12-year-old was inside. The suspects reportedly fled the scene before police arrived at the scene.

At this time, FPPD officials say there is no description of the shooter, and no motive has been identified.
