FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — One person is dead, and two others are seriously injured following a late-night crash on Friday in Fort Pierce.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department say they responded to reports of a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and South 35th Street.

Investigators say a truck was attempting to turn left onto South 35th Street from Virginia Avenue when it was struck by a Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Virginia Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Police say a passenger in the Silverado was ejected during the crash and suffered severe injuries. The passenger was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, where they later died from their injuries.

Both drivers were also taken to Lawnwood Hospital in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation as detectives work to determine exactly what led up to the collision.
