KISSIMMEE, Fla. — If you dig custom cars, live music, and K-9 demos, then round up the family for six hours of community gathering.

1. “Teen Driver Challenge: Car and Truck Show” is back for its 5th year at The Promenade at Sunset Walk in Kissimmee.

2.  The community event is connecting kids and teens with their law enforcement heroes. The Osceola Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Promenade at Sunset Walk to bring out even more stuff kids might find cool — SWAT vehicles, a low helicopter flyover, K9 agility, fire & rescue vehicles, and more.

3.  Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon says this annual event helps establish relationships between deputies and the kiddos. “And it let them see that we are grandfathers, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters,” he said. “We all are just humans. We wear a uniform every day, but we’re just human beings, just like them.”

4.  Festivities are from 2 – 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Promenade at Sunset Walk. Admission is free, but proceeds from the car show registrants benefit the Teen Driver Challenge – a 10-hour course that’s free for young drivers. Its goal is to arm our kids will skills to best avoid a car accident.

5.  There are a few dates coming up for the Teen Driver sessions, starting next Saturday. Here’s the link to get started.
