Two people were killed and four others were hospitalized after a major crash on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach on Friday, officials said.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-95 south of Copans Road.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said two people who were in a car that appears to have been rear-ended were killed.

Four other people were taken to North Broward Medical Center. Their conditions and identities haven’t been released.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a white vehicle with heavy damage, while a silver pickup truck was nearby with front-end damage.

At one point, the southbound general purpose lanes were closed while the express lanes were open, FHP officials said. The lanes were later reopened.

Officials said traffic homicide detectives responded to investigate.
