MOSCOW, 22 February (BelTA) – A new “Belarusian Village” opened in St. Petersburg, Russia on 20 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.

“Another ‘Belarusian Village’ has opened in the very heart of St. Petersburg – in the Gallery shopping and entertainment center on Ligovsky Prospekt. Ahead of the spring holidays, Belarusian goods became even closer and more accessible to residents and guests of the northern capital of Russia,” the diplomatic mission noted.

The Belarusian Village project was launched last year on the initiative of the Minsk Dairy Plant No. 1 trading house and was supported by the Belarusian government, the Belarusian Embassy in Russia and Russian retailers. The concept of the Belarusian Village suggests bringing various Belarusian producers from food products to light industry goods in one space.

The project will be scaled up, Irina Novikova, director of the Minsk Dairy Plant No. 1 trading house told BelTA earlier. In Moscow, cooperation with the Auchan hypermarket chain will continue, with new “Belarusian Villages” opening in three of their stores by April. In addition, negotiations are underway to create such retail spots in Yekaterinburg, Severodvinsk, and Ulan-Ude where “Belarusian Villages” may be set up by the end of this year. The “Belarusian Village” brand has become very popular and Irina Novikova did not rule out future work with Russian partners in the regions under a franchise model.
