Authorities said the crash happened near mile marker 109 in Clarendon County around 8 a.m.
CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — A teen from Florida has died in a crash along I-95 in Clarendon County on Saturday, officials confirm.
Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 109, which is not far from Summerton, around 8 a.m.
Pye said a 2019 Ford sedan was heading north when it ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. Both the driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The passenger, identified by coroner Jacqueline Blackwell as a 13-year-old boy, later died.
Blackwell chose not to identify the deceased due to his age. However, she said he was from St. Petersburg, Florida and that his father was driving at the time.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
