Key Biscayne residents should prepare for a noticeably cooler start to the week as a cold front pushes temperatures well below recent averages.
Monday’s forecast calls for a low of 45 degrees and a daytime high of just 63 degrees, one of the chilliest mornings the Island has seen this season.
Tuesday remains cool, with a low of 55 degrees and a high near 63 degrees, before a gradual warm-up begins Wednesday with temperatures rebounding to 68 degrees overnight and 73 degrees during the day.
While South Florida will not see snow like parts of the Northeast, which is dealing with a massive winter storm, with more than a foot of snow forecast for parts of the Northeast, including New York City, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), the same storm system is sending colder air southward.
By Island standards, 45 degrees is a significant drop. Early morning walkers at Crandon Park, school drop-offs and outdoor dining plans may feel noticeably brisk. Breezy conditions could make it feel cooler at times.
Boaters should monitor marine forecasts for possible advisories tied to gusty winds accompanying the front.
Temperatures are expected to return to more typical late-February levels later in the week.
