A man accused of killing a woman after her body was found in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood was arrested on Thursday, police said.

Altavious Powell, 34, was charged with premeditated murder.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, on Wednesday, officers responded to the 200 block of Northwest 15th Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m., where the body was found.

The woman was identified as 30-year-old Daneshia Heller.

During their investigation, detectives found Powell and arrested him on charges not related to Heller’s death.

Detectives were then able to identify Powell as a homicide suspect, and he was arrested.

It’s unclear what the relationship between Powell and Heller was.
