INTERLACHEN, Fla. (WCJB) – A few new large fires have popped up this weekend.
Chiefland firefighters put out a blaze along U.S. 129, which threatened a nearby structure, but firefighters were able to put it out before it did any significant damage.
Another fire started near a neighborhood in Interlachen on Sunday evening, Putnam County firefighters said it’s around 3 acres, and is threatening a nearby building.
Marion County Fire Rescue put out a fire before it could reach homes in Silver Springs on Saturday afternoon.
They say a camper and a lawnmower were on fire when they got to a field around 1:40 p.M.
They were able to stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings in the area and had it under control in about 35 minutes.
Another fire popped up near Fort McCoy Saturday evening.
According to the latest Florida Forest Service report, it’s about 9.6 acres, and around 60% contained.
