CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Clearwater man was shot outside an apartment complex after police say he threatened two people with a knife.

Detectives with the Clearwater Police Department (CPD) said Josten Pack, 37, confronted a man and woman outside the Royal Breeze Apartments on U.S. 19 North Saturday night. Fearing for his life and the safety of his girlfriend, the man shot Pack.

Pack was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg as a trauma alert, treated, and later released. He was then booked into the Pinellas County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.

Police said Pack also faces a separate charge of battery on a person 65 or older for an incident the previous day. In that case, investigators said he threw a water bottle at a 70-year-old woman at a nearby business, striking her in the face.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
