FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 58-year-old Fort Pierce man has died following a violent two-vehicle crash late Friday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on February 20, Fort Pierce Police said its officers were called to the intersection of Virginia Avenue and South 35th Street, near the Indian River State College Massey campus, for reports of a serious collision. When officers arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles and multiple people injured.

According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado was turning left from Virginia Avenue onto South 35th Street when it was struck by an eastbound Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact caused the Silverado’s passenger, Timothy A. Ecker, to be ejected from the truck. Ecker was rushed to Lawnwood Hospital with severe injuries but later died.
Both drivers were transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where they remain in serious condition, according to the police.
Detectives say the investigation remains active as they work to determine the cause of the crash, including what led up to the high-speed impact. Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
