Residents were temporarily evacuated in Clay County after fire officials say a backyard fire on Moody Avenue got out of control.
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says that an evacuation order for residents in part of Lakeside has been lifted.
The fire located in the 3200 block of Moody Avenue was listed by the Florida Forest Service as spanning two acres Monday afternoon. Clay County Fire Rescue told First Coast News that it was a backyard fire that spread, but is no longer burning.
A Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said approximately 10 to 15 homes were evacuated and directed to a temporary staging area at the nearby Dye Clay Family YMCA.
The First Coast is under a red flag warning due to severe fire risk. Residents are asked to avoid any outdoor burning until conditions improve.
