According to Miami Police, on Friday, officers arrived a the seventh floor of 6355 Southwest 8th Avenue, where they found a man in the hallway suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.
An arrest report said Miami Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Detectives then interviewed a witness who had a revolver in his hands, and told officers Lemus was his son and ran away, the report said.
He said they were working on changing locks at Lemus’ front door, but after finishing, they were locked out of the apartment and called a locksmith to open the door, the report said.
While the locksmith was working on the door, the report said, Lemus pulled a firearm and shot him in the head, then went downstairs and fled the area.
During their investigation, detectives saw surveillance video at the apartment that showed Lemus and the witness following the locksmith back to the apartment, the report said.
Officers then found Lemus at the corner of Southwest 52nd Court and 7th Street, matching the clothes he was seen wearing in the surveillance video, and he was detained, the report said.
Lemus then told detectives he shot at the victim.
