Former Plantation Mayor Lynn Stoner was sentenced Tuesday to one year of probation after pleading no contest to charges of official misconduct and related misdemeanors.

Stoner had been arrested in 2023, accused of trying to coerce a city building official to fraudulently sign off on development projects and falsifying documents to help a developer get a loan.

Stoner served on the Plantation City Council from 2011 to 2017 before being elected mayor in 2018. She lost her reelection campaign in November 2022. She was charged the following year.

By pleading no contest, Stoner accepted accountability and sentencing for the crimes without formally admitting guilt. Broward Circuit Court Judge Tom Coleman withheld adjudication, meaning she will not be considered a convicted felon as long as she serves her probation without a violation.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office noted that no agreement had been reached in exchange for the plea. Given her lack of criminal history, Stoner, 72, would likely not have been sentenced to jail time even if she had been convicted after trial.

“Lynn Stoner loved serving the city of Plantation as councilmember and mayor,” said her lawyer, Larry Davis. “Recently she suffered a serious medical issue and decided to put this behind her to focus on her family and her health.”
