FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — The deaths of two elderly people are under investigation on Tuesday at the Harbour Isle at Hutchinson Island condominium complex, and their son is in custody as a person-of-interest.
The Fort Pierce Police Department said its actively investigating the scene. Investigators responded Tuesday to the gated community, located on the east side of Hutchinson Island, after receiving reports that prompted officers to secure the area and begin an active investigation.
Police said that its officers responded to a welfare check at the condominium, upon arrival, officers found two elderly adults deceased in their residence. Early investigations determined that the deaths are suspicious in nature.
Additionally, the Indian River County Sheriff’s currently has their adult son in custody as a person of interest.

A designated media staging area was established at 805 Harbour Isle Drive East as the investigation continues. Officers remain on scene, and portions of the complex are restricted while crime scene technicians process evidence.
