A Longwood man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after beating an Uber driver in 2023, according to the State Attorney of the 18th Judicial Circuit.The man, Marquis Delcampo, 34, was convicted in January of aggravated battery on a rideshare driver. He was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years plus five more years as a Habitual Felony Offender.BackgroundOn February 22, 2023, the driver, Jovanny Mercado Guzman, stopped his SUV in Casselberry, got out, opened the rear passenger door, and signaled for Delcampo to exit once the ride was over, according to the state attorney.However, Delcampo refused to leave the vehicle, insisting he had paid for the ride and should be allowed to continue. After briefly remaining inside, he exited and began striking Mercado Guzman repeatedly in the face and head.During the trial, video evidence showing the incident, Uber records, and photos, among other evidence, were presented. The medical record also showed that Guzman suffered a broken nose and a fractured upper jawbone.
