The Department of Business and Professional Regulation shut down five Central Florida restaurants for health code violations during the week from Feb. 15-21. There were no emergency shutdowns the week of Feb 8-14.

Orange

Taiwan Express at 3601 Columbia St. in Orlando shut down on Feb. 17. Inspectors found 20 violations, one of which was high priority for rodent activity. A second inspection occurred on Feb. 20. There were 12 violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

China Garden at 2550 W. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down on Feb. 19. Inspectors found 24 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included nonfood-grade bags being used in direct contact with food, roach activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. Two more inspections occurred on Feb. 20, with 22 violations still listed, including the same three deemed high priority, although all received time extensions. On the final visit, inspectors didn’t notice any roach activity, though, and so the venue received an administrative complaint, and the restaurant met inspection standards.

The Chimi Spot at 3900 S. Goldenrod Road in Orlando shut down on Feb. 20. Inspectors found 11 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included raw food items not properly separated from each other, rodent activity and rodent nesting materials on ceiling tiles above the water heater. A second inspection occurred on Feb. 21. There were seven violations, one of which was a high priority for improperly separated raw food. The inspector issued a time extension on the violation and required a follow-up inspection; however, it has been reopened because it doesn’t pose a threat to the general public.

Brevard

Alin’s Thai Street Food at 228 Highway A1A  in Satellite Beach shut down on Feb. 19. Inspectors found nine violations, one of which was high priority for rodent activity evidenced by 103 rat droppings found. A second inspection occurred on Feb. 29. There were six violations, with one high priority still listed for rodent activity, but the inspector didn’t witness any rodent droppings at the callback, so the venue simply received an administrative complaint. The restaurant met inspection standards.

PizzaVola CB at 5240 N. Atlantic Ave. #150 in Cocoa Beach shut down on Feb. 17. Inspectors found 16 violations, seven of which were high priorities. Those violations included evidence of mop/cleaning wastewater dumped onto the ground, sewage/wastewater backing up through the floor drains and a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse. A second inspection occurred on Feb. 18. There were zero violations. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Total Inspections

Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 2,605 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.

Orange County had the most with 1.135, followed by Brevard with 395, Osceola with 351, Volusia with 295, Lake with 272 and Seminole with 157.
