TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – People running for Florida’s highest office could soon have a security detail.
The Florida House approved a bill requiring the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to protect nominees for governor and lieutenant governor following a primary election. The coverage would apply to both Republican and Democratic nominees and extend through the inauguration.
The House also approved a separate bill creating a process governing gubernatorial transitions in Florida. Under that measure, the sitting governor would have 10 days after an election to begin the transition process.
