On Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, the last two Leon County teams standing in the post season, Rickards and Godby, played in the first round of the FHSAA 4A both advancing to the regional semifinals. The Rickards girls basketball team beat Menendez while the Godby boys basketball team beat Raines, with both teams advancing to the next round with a game against Fort Walton. Godby beat Fort Walton extending their postseason run while the Rickards’ girls season came to an end in a tight loss to the Vikings.

Rickards

As the third seed in their region, the Rickards girls basketball team beat Menendez 55-33 in the first round of the state tournament to advance to the semifinals where they played against Fort Walton Beach on Feb 20.

The Raiders played Fort Walton twice in the regular season losing the first game 46-25 but redeemed themselves on Jan. 17 with a 35-30 win over the Vikings.

This time around, Rickards lost to Fort Walton in a close contest with a score of 38-33. With this loss, Rickards moved to 15-7 with their 2026 season coming to an end.

Godby

During the game against Raines in the first round of the state tournament, Jaden Staten led the team in scoring with 26 points while Jason Brown and Lazarus Chambers were the only other players to break into double digits both scoring 11 points.

As the second seed in their region, Godby hosted their semifinal matchup against Fort Walton in Tallahassee on Feb. 21.

In their first meeting of the season, the Cougars got off to a good start against Fort Walton dropping 20 points in the first quarter and only allowing 12. Godby continued to dominate on defense winning the second quarter 18-7 going into halftime up 38-19. Fort Walton Started their comeback finishing the third quarter down 44-31. Although the Vikings scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, Godby finished the game up 60-54, guaranteeing their spot in the Regional Finals against Bishop Kenny.

The Cougars will play Bishop Kenny on Feb. 28 with a chance to punch their ticket to the state semifinals.
