PALMETTO, Fla. — There is a place in Palmetto where mini-machines roar. Welcome to the ethanol-fueled fun at T4 KartPlex.

“These are professional go karts and go about 45 miles an hour, which is the fastest the state of Florida will let us go,” said Andy Haase.

As General Manager Andy Haase explains — the pedal controls are elementary.

Green for go.

Red for stop.

“It doesn’t have any other luxuries. There’s no cupholder, there’s no air-conditioning,” said Haase.

And once you turn 12, there’s no stopping you.

The 13-turn, .6-mile loop is yours, along with safety gear.

What’s the advice for novices?

“First things first, always take it slow,” said Haase.

Karts are where many professional drivers begin their careers.

Turns out, it’s a little hard to go fast and stay on the track, and just as scary avoiding a spin out while pushing the kart to the limit.

Adrenaline and sore arms await.
