The Sanibel Captiva Audubon Society will continue with its mini lecture series for the season.
“Chasing the AOU and North America Big Year Record” will take place on March 10 at 5:30 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, with the doors opening at 5 p.m.
Dave and Tammy McQuade are avid “Big Year” listers, having seen over 700 birds in the American Birding Association areas in seven consecutive years, along with holding the Big Year American Ornithologist Union eBird record.
They will recount their third attempt at trying to break the AOU and North America Big Year records. They will divulge what they learned about doing a Big Year on a larger scale, while talking about some of the places they visited, birds they saw and challenges associated with the adventure along the way.
The McQuades often blend their birding, traveling and photography pursuits. In addition, they manage the Southwest Florida Bird Alert group on Facebook and contribute data to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Macaulay Library.
Tickets are $10; if there are any remaining tickets, they will be available at the door.
