TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – After a brief dry stretch, rain is moving back into the Tallahassee area tonight and will intensify Friday as a cold front pushes through the region.
Some showers this evening
As the cold front approaches, scattered showers are possible this evening and overnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies.
Lows will drop to the upper 50s to lower 60s, though it’ll be breezy with southwest winds gusting around 20-25 mph. Some patchy Fog is likely to develop, especially across Florida counties.
Rain is likely on Friday
Friday is when things get more active. The cold front will move through the area, bringing a greater coverage of showers and the potential for a couple of strong thunderstorms. While the atmosphere won’t be ideal for widespread severe weather, forecasters are watching for the possibility of wind gusts around 40 mph and small hail with the strongest storms.
Most areas will see between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain through Friday night. While these amounts are beneficial, they’re unlikely to improve the ongoing extreme drought conditions.
Weekend outlook
A drying trend begins Saturday as the front moves through, though showers may linger in eastern areas. Sunday looks dry with warm temperatures continuing into early next week, with highs in the 70s to around 80 degrees.
Staying warm next week
Temperatures stay warm through next week with lows in the 50s and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. No impact weather is expected.
Beach & Marine Hazards
Life-threatening rip currents will continue along Gulf beaches through at least Friday night. If you’re heading to the beach, heed all beach flags and follow the advice of beach safety officials. Small craft operators should exercise caution over Apalachee Bay today with fresh southwest breezes and seas ranging from 3 to 5 feet.
