A Cape Coral driver’s dashcam captured a motorist running a stop sign at a busy intersection, prompting local police to warn about the dangers of aggressive and inattentive driving.The incident happened at the intersection of Andalusia Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway East. In the video, the driver appears to approach the intersection without coming to a complete stop, despite clearly marked signage warning motorists of the stop sign ahead.“People still break the law a lot,” said Justin Rodriguez, a Cape Coral resident familiar with the area.Leandro Guevara, who also lives in Cape Coral, said he was not surprised by what he saw.“I seen it happen,” Guevara said. “I’ve seen people blow a stop sign multiple times.”Kevin Holt, who recorded the incident on his dashcam and shared the footage, said he does not understand why the driver failed to stop.“I definitely am tired of the traffic around here,” Holt said. “People just need to be more aware.”Cape Coral police reviewed the dashcam footage and said the driver’s actions could have led to a serious crash.“The way this driver was driving could’ve easily caused a major crash,” said Mercedes Simonds, public affairs officer for the Cape Coral Police Department. “Traffic is obviously a huge concern for everyone on Cape Coral, ourselves included. If everybody does their part to be a safe driver and look out for other drivers who might not be safe, then we can try to make the roads safer overall for everyone.”Police said they frequently respond to crashes caused by speeding and aggressive driving, and they consider running a stop sign to fall within that category.
