The Denver Broncos are losing a promising young coach to the University of Miami.
The Hurricanes are hiring Broncos offensive quality control coach Favian Upshaw as their new running backs coach, according to a report from the Denver Post’s Luca Evans. Before landing that promotion, Upshaw had been working with Lou Ayeni, Denver’s running backs coach, over the last three seasons.
Upshaw, 32, is a former quarterback who joined the Broncos in 2023 after coaching stints at Astronaut High School, Savannah State, Benedict College, Georgia Southern (his alma mater) and Tulane. Before landing the RBs coach position at Miami, Upshaw interviewed for Denver’s wide receivers coach opening earlier this offseason (the team ended up hiring Ronald Curry for that role).
