Music can derive from anywhere and everywhere, but there is something special about learning that music originates from your hometown.

Last Resort is a Jacksonville band dedicated to making music that all can enjoy, not just locals. Last Resort consists of four members: Jacob Skidmore is the frontman, Tim Skidmore is the rhythm guitarist, Zachary Skidmore is the bassist, and Jackson Moser is the drummer.

For some history on the band’s beginnings, both Jacob Skidmore and Moser were a part of a different band titled Lunch Box in 2019. According to Jacob Skidmore, they discovered how well they work together as songwriters. When Lunch Box split up, Jacob Skidmore and Moser decided to make something of their own. The two are the original members of what is now Last Resort, said Jacob Skidmore.

While the band was official and making music, they were still missing a name. According to Jacob Skidmore, the members would suggest names, but no one could agree. The name “Last Resort” was chosen due to the constant back and forth between them, Jacob Skidmore said. “Last Resort” is the band name that evolved from a last-ditch effort.

At first, Last Resort was dedicated to making music that is meant to be played live. Live shows were new to them when they started, and they were eager to try them.

It was a “departure of what we’d known as musicians already,” said Jacob Skidmore. In May of 2023, Last Resort performed their first of many live shows.

Last Resort has been established for almost three years. In that time, the goals of the band have shifted. Last Resort began to mean something more.

“It became a lot more to all of us than just a hobby,” said Jacob Skidmore.

Last Resort began to focus on making music that resonated with people and meant something. Jacob Skidmore said that this became clear to them after a couple of fan interactions, hearing firsthand how their music affected others.

“I want to make people feel something,” Jacob Skidmore said.

When it comes to genre, Last Resort brings something new and original to the table. Jacob Skidmore said that their music is “probably a genre that doesn’t exist.” If Last Resort were to be classified into a genre, it would be indie. “Indie rock with a southern twist,” Jacob Skidmore said.

Last Resort is inspired by many other music artists. These include The Beatles, The Backseat Lovers, Supertramp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Mustard Service. Last Resort is heavily influenced by Mustard Service, given that they are also a smaller band from Florida.

“It’s inspiring to see a Florida artist do what we want to do,” said Jacob Skidmore.

Last Resort’s recent single “House of Cards” was something of a rebrand for them, according to Jacob Skidmore. “House of Cards” was recorded before the band was officially together. They decided to take their time with this release to figure out who they were as a band, said Jacob Skidmore.

Furthermore, Last Resort put a lot of care and effort into “House of Cards” when it came to the song itself and the visuals that accompany it, said Jacob Skidmore. The song developed into a representation of Last Resort as a whole, Jacob Skidmore said. The hard work paid off as the song became something they were truly proud of.

“Good things come to those who wait,” said Jacob Skidmore.

As for future releases, the band is tired of just dropping singles, according to Jacob Skidmore. Last Resort is now focused on creating a full album. The band wants a project that they can pour their heart and soul into, said Jacob Skidmore.

Last Resort is excited to incorporate new elements into their new music. For instance, they want to add orchestral and country components, says Jacob Skidmore. It doesn’t just stop there, though.

The band believes in experimenting with anything and everything, disregarding what may be considered conventional in terms of music. “There are no rules to making music, only stereotypes,” Jacob Skidmore said.

Fans will be excited to know that new music is on the way. Last Resort is dropping their newest single, “Nosedive,” on April 17. 2026.
