Voting for the Cape Coral Breeze Athlete of the Month for February is now open.     

There were a number of top performances from student-athletes in The Breeze coverage area during the month and now it’s up to readers to decide who will earn top honors for the period.    

Nominees for February include: 

• Kenlee Dominguez, junior, North Fort Myers Red Knights: The junior scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win over rival Mariner to help the Red Knights capture the 5A-11 District Soccer Championship.

• Jack Fish, junior, Bishop Verot Vikings: The junior netted the game-winning goal for the Vikings in a 1-0 win over Aubrey Rogers to win a seventh consecutive 3A-11 District Soccer Championship.

• Jayden Labbe, freshman, Oasis Sharks: The freshman dropped 36 points in a 73-62 win for the Sharks over Glades Central in District Semifinal basketball. Labbe shot 86% from the floor, made all seven of his three-point attempts, and added eight rebounds. 

• Robert Ballesteros, senior, North Fort Myers Red Knights: The senior helped lead the Red Knights to its first District Championship in 41 years in a 62-61 win over top-seed Cape Coral. Ballesteros led the team with 26 points, collected 10 rebounds, and added four steals. 

• Paige Thomas, junior, Oasis Sharks: Thomas represented the Sharks at the FHSAA 1A State Weightlifting Championships.  She placed 5th in the state for the Olympic category and 8th in Traditional for her weight class. 

• Cora Hayes, sophomore, North Fort Myers Red Knights: Hayes was the FHSAA 1A-11 District Wrestling Champion in the 125-pound weight class for the Red Knights. 

• Jaelyn Hoefer, sophomore, North Fort Myers Red Knights: The sophomore scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 soccer win over Mariner to send the Red Knights back to the FHSAA 5A Final Four, and secure a third-straight regional championship.

• Toby Pearce, senior, Mariner Tritons: Pearce is the District 2A-11 wrestling champion in the 150-pound division. 

Athlete of the Month nominees are comprised of the Breeze’s staff-selected Athletes of the Week for that respective month.
