A 41-year-old man who was wanted in the fatal shooting of his father was arrested in Hollywood last week, the U.S. Marshals Service said Monday.

The U.S. Marshals Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force worked with Port St. Lucie and Broward County police to arrest Sheldon Brian Morrison on Feb. 18 on a charge of first-degree murder, officials said in a statement. Morrison is accused of shooting his 69-year-old dad to death over a dispute about a family pet.

Officials didn’t identify Morrison’s father or provide additional information about the dispute.

Port St. Lucie police responded at around 7:45 a.m. to the shooting on the 5900 block of Ketona Circle and identified Morrison as the suspect, the U.S. Marshals Service said. Police were unable to find him and reached out to the task force’s Fort Pierce office for help.

Fort Pierce investigators used a vehicle description to determine Morrison was headed toward Broward County, and they sent a lead to their Fort Lauderdale counterparts, the U.S. Marshals Service said. That afternoon, the Broward Sheriff’s Office spotted Morrison driving the vehicle through a residential area in Hollywood. Hollywood Police Department officers tried to stop Morrison with several unmarked law-enforcement vehicles and about 15 task-force officials as backup.

“Morrison refused to stop, driving erratically until ultimately veering off the roadway and into a grass swale,” the U.S. Marshals Service said.

He was given commands to exit the vehicle and walk toward task-force members, who placed him in handcuffs. Officers found a 9mm handgun magazine in his pocket and towed his car to the Hollywood Police Department for evidence.

Port St. Lucie Police Department detectives then went to Hollywood to continue their homicide investigation. Morrison was not listed as being in custody Tuesday in Broward or St. Lucie county jails, records show.
