JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville men’s rowing opens its 2026 spring competition season with the first of several intrastate tilts. The Dolphins will make the trip down I-95 for a duel against the Rollins Tars.
This weekend marks the revival of the U.T. Bradley Cup between JU and Rollins. The series runs deep in both programs history from the mid 20th century, with the U.T. Bradley Cup being introduced in 1984.
Named in honor of former Rollins head coach and founding member of the Dad Vail Rowing Association, Dr. U.T. Bradley.
While JU and Rollins are historic rivals, the Bradley Cup hasn’t been raced since JU took the cup in 2008.
“I’m excited to bring back historic cup racing this spring, as well as introducing new cups and trophies that will celebrate rowing in the Southeast,” head coach Preston Weinard.
The Dolphins will row X crews in Saturday’s regatta. The race is an opportunity for Jacksonville to compete for Floridian dominance and build a foundation for the season to come.
“Our trip to Rollins will have lots of racing in a short time frame, and we’re excited to get a race experience under our belt in February. The team has been preparing well, several younger guys have stepped up into Varsity boats, and the energy is palpable as we get ready for race day. The U.T. Bradley Cup is on the line this weekend – we hope to bring it back to Jacksonville,” Weinard said.
The racing starts with the Varsity 8+ at 8:10 AM. The second and third Varsity 8+ will both go off at 8:20 AM. The Dolphins will also have a fourth 8+ race, with the novices jetting off at 9:10 AM.
Jacksonville will send four fours out Saturday morning as well. The Varsity 4+ competes at 9:00 AM, two Varsity 4+ “B” crews will race at 9:40 AM. The Novice 4+ are the last scheduled race of the day, scheduled for 10:30 AM.
The Dolphins will also row two Pairs, nothing going off at 9:50 AM.
In addition to the match-up with Rollins, the event will also feature UCF.
