Jacksonville was victorious in its first of two games against DePaul, winning 3-2 in 10 innings to improve to 8-8 on the season.

Dolphins Win In 10
In the longest game of the season thus far for Jacksonville, the Dolphins came out victorious in 10 full innings of play, downing DePaul in Game One of tournament action.

It was the longest game in over two years for the Dolphins, matching a 10-inning win over Kennesaw State back in March of 2024 and Jacksonville’s first extra inning contest of the season.

Both teams were scoreless through three innings before DePaul broke free in the fourth, scoring a pair.

Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the fifth with a run courtesy of a Sarah Beth Brake jack to left field, her second of the year.

In the sixth, pinch hitting for her first time of the game, graduate student Kate Linkletter stepped up and delivered a timely RBI-single to left to tie the game at 2-2.

Both teams remained scoreless through the regular seven innings. With the automatic extra-innings ghost runner, DePaul got its runner to third in the top of the eight but were staved off by the Dolphin defense. In the ninth, the Blue Demons had runners on the corners but again remained without the game’s potential winning run.

In the 10th, Alison Carter reached third from second after a Jacy Harrelson groundout. Carter was subbed on the corner for freshman Elizabeth Harley, who reached home after Brake flew out to right field on a sacrifice. Harley’s speed managed to beat the throw down the first base line and win Jacksonville its opening game of the JU/UNF Classic.

JU managed just three hits in the game, with the graduate Brake leading the squad with two RBIs. Freshman Jaida Thomas collected a hit in the game, good for the day’s only triple—the team’s first triple of the season and the first of Thomas’ career.

In the circle, Harrelson fanned eight through seven innings of work. She allowed just two hits to move to 5-4 on the season. Harrelson’s eight Ks represented a career high for the sophomore and was her second seven-plus strikeout game in a row.

Coming on in relief, Reese Wells pitched the final three innings and fanned a pair, allowing two hits. The combined 10 Ks from the JU pitching staff tied a season high.
