The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando will host a production of Into the Woods this summer with Jodi Benson among the cast.
Jodi Benson, known for voicing Ariel in The Little Mermaid, will be playing The Witch in the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods. The show will run at the Dr. Phillips Center from July 31 to August 2, with tickets on sale on March 6.
Of the news, Benson said in an Instagram post that she had been holding on to that casting announcement for two years. “I’m so thrilled to finally share that I’ll be playing The Witch this summer in Into the Woods with my incredible friend, Kristen Sheola Paul as my director back at the amazing Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center of the Performing Arts in Orlando,” she wrote.

Sondheim’s 1986 musical tells several classic fairytale stories; however, it centers on The Baker and The Baker’s Wife, who must reverse The Witch’s curse to start a family. Other stories told include Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella, among other touchpoints. Disney also released a film adaptation of the musical in 2014.
