BIRMINGHAM, Ala – UAB used a pair of big innings to even the series Saturday afternoon, defeating Jacksonville (9-2) 11-6 at Young Memorial Field. The loss snaps the Dolphins’ five-game winning streak and sets up a rubber match Sunday.

The Blazers jumped out early with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.

Jacksonville answered immediately in the second. Cade Walter ripped a bases-clearing double to left center, scoring Sammy Mummau, Griffin Pomper and Sam Grunberg to tie the game at 3-3.

UAB regained the lead later in the inning on an RBI double, then created separation in the fifth with a three-run home run and an RBI groundout to push the advantage to 8-3.

Abdriel Delgado responded in the sixth with a solo home run to left center, cutting into the deficit. 

JU continued to chip away in the seventh when Shields delivered an RBI single to make it 8-5.

UAB added insurance in the seventh and eighth innings, stretching the lead to 11-5 Cade Walter launched a solo home run down the left field line in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Despite the loss, Jacksonville collected 12 hits and consistently put pressure on the bases, but untimely situations kept the Dolphins from fully capitalizing.
