Álex Palou won last year’s race, the season opener for the IndyCar Series, while McLaughlin was the 2022 winner in St. Petersburg. McLaughlin secured the pole position with a lap of 1:00.5426 during Round 3 of qualifying to lead the Fast Six, finishing ahead of Marcus Ericsson.

Rookie Dennis Hauger is third on the grid with Palou fourth, while David Malukas and Romain Grosjean are on the third row. Marcus Armstrong and Pato O’Ward make up Row 4, and Louis Foster and Kyffin Simpson round out the top 10.

Palou rolled to his third straight series championship in 2025 with a dominant performance, winning the title by 196 points over second-place Pato O’ward. It was Palou’s fourth championship since 2021 and included eight wins in 17 events.

The street circuit in St. Petersburg is 1.8 miles with 14 turns and connects existing streets to one of the runways at Albert Whitted Airport, creating a long straight where the start/finish line is located.
