
Cape Coral, FL – On October 18, 2025, at approximately 5:24 a.m., officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress in a neighborhood in northwest Cape Coral.
A Cape Coral Police detective was at her residence when her home security system alerted her to activity near her vehicle. Through video surveillance, the detective observed an individual attempting to open the doors of her locked police vehicle and several other vehicles in the area. She immediately contacted dispatch, and responding officers quickly established a perimeter and deployed a K9 unit, UAV, and helicopter support to aid in locating the suspect.
A short time later, officers observed an individual matching the suspect’s description walking in the vicinity of the reported burglary. When approached, the suspect fled on foot but was quickly detained by pursuing officers following a coordinated effort.
Upon his detention, the suspect was found to have a quantity of cash in his possession. Detectives determined that one of the stolen items—specifically, forty-nine $2 bills—matched currency reported missing by one of the victims.
Several additional victims from nearby residences also came forward, reporting that their vehicles had been unlawfully entered. Officers documented and processed each burglary accordingly.
Detectives from the Cape Coral Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation. Jlishawon Daniels (09/14/2006) was subsequently identified and arrested. Additional investigations are ongoing. He was transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

Following the arrest, neighborhood children brought the detective a thank-you card to show their appreciation for keeping the neighborhood safe. This serves as a reminder that many Cape Coral officers live within the city and are personally invested in protecting their own communities—proud to keep Cape Coral safe.
