ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man was arrested on a DUI charge after crashing into a sign in St. Petersburg on Friday, police say.

The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. at Dali Boulevard and 4th Street South. According to arrest records, Sean Coughlin, 30, was driving a blue GMC Hummer at the time.

He reportedly had bloodshot, watery eyes, as well as a dazed and blank expression on his face. The affidavit says Coughlin also had the smell of alcohol on his breath, was unsteady on his feet and showed further signs of impairment on the field sobriety tests.

Coughlin was not injured in the collision, officials say. He now faces DUI involving property damage.

Details into the damage were not immediately available. But photos from the scene show the sign, which sits atop a median, torn apart at the bottom.

Police say the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is now handling the crash investigation.
