The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says four cars were involved in a crash after a teen driver’s car crossed over a median into oncoming traffic.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people were killed and multiple others injured in a four-car crash on Atlantic Boulevard, over Little Pottsburg Creek, Sunday afternoon, according to police.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at around 12:30 p.m., when a westbound Infinity sedan driven by a teenager crossed over a median and into oncoming traffic.
Three other vehicles heading eastbound — two SUVs and a sedan — crashed as a result.Â
Two of the cars caught fire, according to a Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department spokesperson. Atlantic Boulevard was shut down from Empire Point to University Boulevard for several hours as police and fire rescue crews responded to the scene.
All three people in one of the SUVs died on scene, JSO says. Two men in the other SUV suffered life-threatening injuries, while a woman in her 50s driving the eastbound sedan and the teen driver were transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
“Traffic Homicide Investigators are piecing together evidence at the crash scene to determine the sequence of events,” JSO said Sunday.
It was not immediately clear if the driver of the Infinity would face criminal charges.
