INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The county’s newest fire station is expected to cut response times for emergency services in the western part of the county and parts of Fellsmere.
County and Fellsmere officials officially opened the 9,035-square-foot Fire Station 7, 9700 26th St., west of Interstate 95 near the CVS Distribution Center. The three-bay, $6.9 million facility, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including advanced life support engine and rescue transport unit, a brush truck and water tanker.
“They say in real estate, location is everything. Location is critically important when it comes to public safety,” said County Administrator John Titkanich.

Indian River County Fire Station 7 officially opened Feb. 27, 2026. The station, west of Interstate 95, is expected to handle anticipated growth in the county and part of Fellsmere.
Officials celebrated the completion of the new station, saying it will improve response times not only for the current population, but for future development, particularly in the west part of the county.

“When future development happens, we are ahead of that, making sure the infrastructure is in place,” said County Commission Susan Adams. “I think that’s part of smart growth.”
Construction began in 2022, seven years after the former fire Station 7 on 82nd Avenue was demolished because of mold issues.

In 2022, county commissioners approved a $250,440 design contract.
The county paid $430,000 in 2020 for the 2.8-acre site. County commissioners wanted a location near I-95 to provide better responses to mobile home communities at 82nd and 90th avenues and to incidents on the interstate.
