JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville freshman guard Tatum Brown came into the season with impossible expectations as a four-star prospect and the highest rated recruit in program history. Yet, the Grayson High School product still exceeded expectations.

Brown was named ASUN Freshman of the Year for her success this year, the league announced Monday. Brown is Jacksonville’s third Freshman of the Year honoree and first since Kayla Gordon in 2014-15.

Brown was a consistent producer on both sides of the court. She arguably shined brightest on defense, as she led the conference with 2.3 steals per game. Her 67 steals are already the third-most in a single season at JU.

She was also the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 10.1 points per game. Brown blossomed as a rebounder as well, averaging 5.1 boards per game.

Brown entered college basketball in the most dramatic way possible, scoring 20 points including an overtime buzzer-beater in her first college game. From there, she continued to make history and smash records.

She scored at least 15 points in eight different games, and she tallied two double-doubles.

Throughout the season, Brown won ASUN Freshman of the Week three separate times. Among her awards-worthy performances was a 20-point, eight-rebound and four-steal performance in a win over Florida Gulf Coast in the stretch run of the regular season.

In addition to winning ASUN Freshman of the Year, Brown was named to the All-ASUN Third Team. She was the only freshman in the conference to make one of the three All-League teams. She earned a spot on the All-Freshman team, as well.

Brown and the Dolphins start their conference tournament run Thursday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The quarterfinal game will be played at 5 PM against the winner of #7 West Georgia and #10 North Florida.
