Lifelong resident and Fort Myers native Joseph P. D’Alessandro, 86, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026 after a brief illness.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Julia Anella D’Alessandro, and his sisters Marguerite D’Alessandro Monger and Patricia D’Alessandro Suchor.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sydney Parnell D’Alessandro, his sister Julie D’Alessandro Woods of Baltimore, MD, his brother Peter D’Alessandro (Leslie) of Fort Myers, his son Joseph D’Alessandro Jr. (Cassie) and granddaughter Tara D’Alessandro, of Fort Worth, TX, his daughter Sylvia D’Alessandro of St. Augustine, FL, his grandson Taylor Lannen (Victoria Maroti) and great-granddaughter Naomi Lannen, all of Fort Myers, and a large, loving family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was everything to Joe.
Joe was a respected public servant to the citizens of Southwest Florida. He enjoyed a distinguished 33 year career as the elected State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit, serving Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties. He is remembered for his ability to administer justice, while remaining compassionate and fair. Joe helped shape the careers of countless young lawyers, many of whom continue to practice locally. In addition to his work as State Attorney, he served on the Board of Directors for the Housing Authority for the City of Fort Myers for 22 years. Joe cared deeply about this community and was committed to making it better.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection in Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers Future Forward Scholarship Program in the name of Joseph P. D’Alessandro.
