Tallahassee, FL – Summer-like heat is surging across Florida’s Panhandle and Big Bend this week, with afternoon highs climbing into the mid-80s and edging closer to record territory by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, temperatures will steadily rise through Sunday, with many inland communities reaching the mid to upper 80s. Forecasters say there is a low, less than 20 percent chance that some spots touch 90 degrees by Sunday afternoon, especially away from the immediate coast.

Statewide, the warming trend will stretch from Panama City to Valdosta, Georgia, signaling one of the warmest stretches so far this year. Tallahassee is expected to peak in the mid-80s through the weekend, while Albany, Bainbridge and Dothan could approach the upper 80s by Saturday and Sunday. Coastal areas like Apalachicola and Panama City will remain cooler, generally in the upper 70s to near 80, thanks to Gulf breezes.

The early taste of summer could increase fire sensitivity across dry inland areas and push energy demand higher during peak afternoon hours. Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Warm conditions hold through the weekend, and additional updates could follow if temperatures trend closer to record highs.
