Digital theater and planetarium on schedule to open in spring 2026.
The Dr. Phillips CineDome at Orlando Science Center is getting a big upgrade. The giant projector, 300 seats and the metal (yes, metal) screen are all coming out to make way for a state-of-the-art 8K digital projection system that will allow for large-format movies, planetarium presentations and laser light shows.

Upgrades also include the sound system, seating and snack options. OSC officials plan to have concessions for moviegoers served by vending machines, including a made-to-order popcorn machine.
Dr. Phillips Charities donated $1 million to Orlando Science Center’s Unlock Science campaign to help the renovation move forward.

After removing all the seating and carpets, the construction crew had to assemble scaffolding and a deck to reach the top of the 79-foot screen. (JUNO LE)
