More than 15,000 runners are expected to hit the road through downtown Jacksonville, San Marco and St. Nicholas for the 49th annual Gate River Run on Saturday morning, March 7.
And where runners are running, cars won’t.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will be closing numerous roads near the heart of the city, including two of the five major downtown bridges across the St. Johns River, for the 15-kilometer race.
Some of the closures last for only a short time, such as the Main Street Bridge, but others will remain out of service to vehicular traffic throughout the morning.
In addition to runners, the road closures could complicate travel for drivers heading to other events like the Jacksonville Home & Patio Show at the Prime Osborn Convention Center or the ASUN women’s basketball tournament semifinals at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The latter tips off at 11 a.m. March 7, only a couple of blocks from the finish line, and during a time when thousands of runners will still remain on or near the course.
