2 Jacksonville men charged in 2022 murder, armed burglary

  • March 3, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two men were charged in the 2022 murder of a 23-year-old, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

On Sept. 1, 2022, officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex off Kernan Boulevard. A tenant told officers that three masked men broke into his apartment shot at him, and he returned fire.

Less than an hour later, JSO learned Melvin Keepler Jr. was found outside a hospital on 103rd Street with a gunshot wound, from which he died.

Investigators determined that Keepler Jr., Tyss Harris, 23, and Talint Curtis, 25, were the masked men who broke into the apartment.

Harris and Curtis were arrested for Keepler Jr.’s murder and the armed burglary, JSO said.

On June 24, 2025, Harris was taken into custody. On Feb. 24, 2025, Curtis was arrested in Bay County and transported back to Duval County on Feb. 27, 2026.
