JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second time in two seasons, a Jacksonville Dolphin was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.
Freshman guard Hayden Wood was selected by league coaches to the ASUN All-Freshman Team, the league announced Tuesday. He joined unanimous selection Zyree Collins (APSU), Ty Robinson (UCA), Jordan Ellerbee (FGCU) and Jordan Watford (Queens). The full list of ASUN Postseason Awards can be seen HERE.
Wood now joins teammate Chris Arias as the pair of Dolphins named to back-to-back All-Freshman teams. The Springdale, Arkansas native also became the 16th Dolphin all-time to be voted to the ASUN All-Freshman squad.
It’s hard to talk about Jacksonville’s 2025-26 season without mentioning Wood, who leads the ‘Phins in a myriad of statistical categories.
Wood stepped onto the court in Coral Gables, starting his first college game at the University of Miami. There, he dropped 10 points, one of his 17 double-digit scoring games which is best on the team.
He leads the team in total starts (30), minutes played (824), field goals made (121), field goal attempts (269), 3-pointers made (55), 3-pointers attempted (147), 3-point shooting percentage (37.4%), total points (355), scoring average (11.5). Wood is also second on the team in blocks (20) and fourth in total rebounds (95).
Of all the Dolphin players, Wood is the only one with a double-digit scoring average.
In conference play, Wood has ratcheted up his ability when it has mattered most. His in-conference scoring average raises all the way to 13.7 points per game against ASUN opponents.
Wood’s best games all season have come in conference play, like when he dropped a career-high 25 points in a win over North Alabama, later dropping the same amount in a home win over Stetson. The guard had five ASUN games in 20-point scoring range. In two of those games, he made eight or more shots from the field.
Against the Hatters in his 25-point showcase, Wood went a perfect 12-12 from the line, showcasing his impressive 74.2 free throw percentage.
The Dolphins, led by their star freshman, start their journey in the ASUN Tournament Wednesday morning. JU, competing as the #9 seed, takes on #8 Bellarmine from inside UNF Arena Wednesday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
