The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved a contract for significant traffic signal repairs on Estero Boulevard in Fort Myers Beach.

The project focuses on fixing damage caused by Hurricane Ian on Sept. 28, 2022, at the intersection of Estero Boulevard and Old San Carlos Boulevard.

Repairs will include removing and replacing all wiring, installing new electrical service, a new traffic signal controller, signal heads, and a video detection system. The project also includes new pedestrian signal assemblies and refreshed pavement markings.

The contract, valued at $332,366, was awarded to DPI Experts LLC.

Lee County Department of Transportation collaborated with the federal government to ensure local taxpayers do not bear the full cost. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Relief Fund will finance the project.

Construction is set to begin in June and is expected to be completed by September 2026, weather permitting.
