For a third consecutive year, employees of Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille and Dixie Fish Company removed trash from Fort Myers Beach as part of Tunaskin Beach Keepers Club’s and Keep Lee County Beautiful’s 11th annual beach cleanup. Employees from the Fort Myers Beach restaurants collected 10 bags of debris along the beach in three hours.

“Fort Myers Beach is our home turf, so to speak, and it’s our responsibility to care, protect and preserve our beaches,” said Joe Harrity, a partner with HM Restaurant Group, which manages Doc Ford’s and Dixie Fish Company. “We take pride in keeping our beaches beautiful. I commend our employees for taking time from their day to make a meaningful impact on the community and support this worthy mission, which benefits local residents and visitors, the economy, tourism and conservation.”

Doc Ford’s also donated bean dip and ceviche meals for the 400 volunteers that participated in the beach cleanup.

Founded in 2016 by Tunaskin Aquatic Apparel, the Beach Keepers Club’s Fort Myers Beach event began as a way to connect and give back to the community by cleaning up local beaches. It has grown from 86 volunteers to hundreds of participants today and has since expanded to Sarasota and Key West.

The Feb. 15 Fort Myers Beach cleanup attracted over 400 volunteers and raised $6,000 through registration fees and donations for Keep Lee County Beautiful and the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.
