A 14-year-old has been arrested after causing a large law enforcement response Monday afternoon at University High School in Orlando, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. A 14-year-old has been arrested after causing a large law enforcement response Monday afternoon at University High School in Orlando, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The teen called 911 to report an active shooter, OCSO said.

“That call elicited a massive law enforcement response – and those deputies could not be in their areas addressing real crime,” OCSO said. “All because someone thought it would be hilarious to call 911 and make up a story that is every parent and student’s nightmare.”

OCSO said hoax threats are a crime, and in this case, it’s a felony.
