HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 25-year-old Tampa man was killed after being run over by a tractor-trailer truck in a Tuesday morning three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
He was driving a Dodge 1500 pick-up truck in the northbound outside lane of the highway around 6 a.m.
At the same time, a Chevy box truck, driven by a 35-year-old Valrico man, was heading north on the interstate just ahead of him.
The pick-up truck overtook and hit the back of the box truck, which came to a stop on the highway’s shoulder, FHP said.
The pickup truck overturned multiple times from the impact and the driver was thrown from the vehicle.
The Tampa man landed in I-75’s center lanes and was hit by a tractor-trailer, driven by a Riverview man, that was also heading north on the highway, investigators said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No information was provided about whether the other drivers were injured in the crash.
