Tallahassee drivers feel financial strain at gas pump as conflict in Iran continues

  • March 3, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Gas prices are climbing as the conflict with Iran disrupts global oil markets, and drivers in the capital city are feeling the impact.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline in Florida has risen to $3.07, according to AAA. In Tallahassee, drivers are paying an average of $2.94 per gallon, though prices are expected to continue increasing throughout the week.

Canyln Swisher, a Tallahassee driver, said higher prices are already straining his budget. He said he is paying about $36 more to fill up his truck than he did a week ago.

“It definitely is not good, considering my pay didn’t go up,” Swisher said. “Still gotta fork out money to drive. It is a requirement. Prices fluctuate, and hopefully it’ll come down soon so I can recoup some losses.”

More Tallahassee news:

Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA, said crude oil prices jumped about $5 per barrel Monday, resulting in a 10 to 15 cent increase per gallon at the pump. Prices rose again on Tuesday, he said.

Jenkins said the conflict is also heightening concerns about oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Right now, there are a lot of concerns within the energy industry about the Strait of Hormuz,” Jenkins said. “That traffic has essentially halted, which means there is a lot of oil sitting on barges and not being used while demand still exists.”

Jenkins said there is no clear timeline for when prices might ease. In the meantime, he recommended that drivers shop around for the lowest prices and take advantage of fuel rewards programs to help offset rising costs.
