TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Head Start programs across Tallahassee are expected to close Friday due to the ongoing government shutdown, according to the Tallahassee Urban League.
Specifically, those programs include five centers in Tallahassee and 378 students, the Urban League wrote in a press release Thursday afternoon.
To help families who cannot afford to place their children in daycare programs, Bethel Baptist and Anderson Chapel have agreed to provide a temporary location for the children during the day, the Urban League said.
However, the organization said it needs one additional location as well as donations “to purchase food for breakfast and lunch for 378 kids for at least two weeks.”

The announcement comes as Head Start programs across north Florida face closures until Congress restores funding.
The government shut down on October 1 after Congress failed to pass a funding plan, causing a strain on programs people rely on.
