TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – A man was sentenced to more than two years in federal prison Wednesday for impersonating a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy in a phone scam.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa said Kimani Brennen Fletcher, 26, of Covington, Georgia, was also ordered to pay more than $40,000 in restitution.
Court documents show Fletcher called victims as he impersonated a deputy, telling them they had outstanding warrants and needed to pay money to avoid arrest.
Fletcher then posed as a bail bondsman and picked up money from victims in Florida. In total, Fletcher obtained approximately $40,800 in fraud proceeds.
Fletcher was sentenced to 27 months in prison for wire fraud after pleading guilty in December 2025.
